Initial Inspection Purpose
A party wall surveyor will visit both your property and your neighbour’s before any work begins to assess the condition of the shared wall or boundary structures.
Documenting the Condition
This inspection results in a Schedule of Condition report, which includes detailed photographs, written notes, and sometimes measurements. This provides a record of the property’s state before works start.
Checking Structural Details
Surveyors examine architectural plans and technical drawings to understand the proposed works and assess potential risks to the adjoining property.
Discussing Access Requirements
They may need access to the neighbour’s property during and after the construction for ongoing inspections or if issues arise. This is usually covered in the Party Wall Award.
Preparing the Party Wall Award
Following inspection and assessments, the surveyor(s) prepare the Party Wall Award, setting out how the work will be conducted, the safeguards in place, and how damage will be handled.
Follow-Up Inspections
Surveyors may return during or after the project to check compliance and inspect any damage claims, helping ensure works are carried out safely and fairly. Why Inspections Matter
